cats in woodlands

let's start with the cats in woodlands. they're mostly very interesting and friendly.

his birthday his birthday

after his coaching lessons, decided to celebrate his birthday a little earlier by treating him to a simple dinner at fish & co. the service we had at the imm branch was great! the server was jovial and candid with us. and she's most probably a teenager still in school!

i'd like to think that we both chat more openly now, than we did when we're together in that seven years. perhaps the benefit of age / maturity and the distance... nonetheless, we didn't want to make his birthday a big deal or anything. i guess we both appreciate the thought and sincerity rather?

its never easy. and it came and passed us by. mum was right afterall. i'm at that age where celebrating hari raya is emotionally quite empty even though the whole family is there. yes it is ultimately about family and forgiving and the bonding. but still. she knows someone is missing in my life and so she brought it up.

never realised just how much i missed playing around with paper, glue and other arts and craft stuffs. after a week of dog-gone work, it is really therapeutic to play with these things again.

can't wait for the long weekend.

its funny how as the years go by, my perception of hari raya changes. this year, can't help but feel how much the atmosphere is imbued with consumerism.

but i was also surprised to note that there's hardly a soul at kampung melayu near the sultan mosque. the stalls were closed even though its just 9pm.
so in the end, brought the parents to geylang serai. but we didn't buy much of anything. not even a ramlee burger. guess we realized this isn't how we'd be celebrating. just 7 more days.

on another note. can't help but notice couples as we strolled around. mum and dad also commented, neutral stuffs. but deep down, i'd really love to bring that someone along too.

mother's day is usually a quiet simple day for us. nothing extravagant. nothing extra special. nothing to splurge on. or pamper. you learn to love the simple and plain. you celebrate small achievements. and you stay a little while longer to enjoy the time pass by.

disappointed. took several photos for the website yesterday at the pool but i guess i was really not cut up for this kind of work. all the images were... at best, useable in small sizes for the discerning eye.

today however, picked up quite a lot of films from [info]f_o_c. much appreciation for passing me the film! looks like i'd have some fun with cross processing in the coming few months. GANBATTE~!!!

so later is late lunch with the parents for mother's day. which was relatively a simple affair.

so can you imagine how excited i am? apart from the james bond-esque way how he drove that sporty piece of silver. tag me.

its oh so quiet...

yesterday's escape to orchard road with bear was pretty futile. i recall the empty orchard road streets during chinese new year. guess life goes on pretty much the same everywhere else. so today i decided that i could do trying to escape to an empty part of singapore.

j had to work today, since his company is based from the states. so its a great excuse to visit him at work and meet for lunch. it was surreal at first. almost quiet streets. almost empty buildings. almost deserted.

almost.

it almost felt like a quiet escape for a bit. so after lunch at lau pa sat. i walked around by myself. taking bits here and there. mingling amongst the japanese and ang moh and chinese tourists. and an indian tourist couple approached me to take a snapshot for them. i smiled and obliged. giving them a little memory from my point of view.

as i made my way towards raffles mrt, i bumped into my secondary school friend, sok kiang. she said its boring today. and after a hectic first day of lunar new year, she decided to get back to her office to clear up her pile on her desk. and i missed out on dina's little gathering for dinner with [info]2000watts and yovanna. but maybe i'd catch up with them tomorrow afternoon instead...

ah well.

everytime i see a kangoo / day one of the new year

a few things i'd like to ponder about.

i always liked the fact that its always deserted years ago.
today however, seems a lot of people are still out and about in town.

i've been alive for 2 chinese zodiac cycles.

there has been plenty of ups and downs the past 24 years.
well 23 years 11 mths, and only 16 more days to go. whoever's counting.

people generally don't give a rat's ass to service staffs.
for example, the teens at mos burger's below lido today (whatever that building is called), obviously had to slog thru a long weekend serving endless customers with a smile and "welcome to mos burger" but every other customer that walked in, neither smiled, nor have a facial expression other than the one u'd have when you're about to spit into someone's face. stoic. tight lipped. i'm not sure really.

but don't you think when you smile and greet back a waiter / waitress who's taking your order, you'd get that warm gushy feeling that you made them smile in return? i mean... it made me warm and fuzzy when that girl giggled after i made a silly remark over their new fish organic rice burger thingie. and she sounded even more energetic and sweet~!

oh. i definitely saw cutie </a>[info]zuco, coming down the stairs opposite the mos burger. haha... didn't have the guts to say hi... but... i could be mistaken. so oh well.

+ ) everytime i see a kangoo i think of you. hahaha.
